Westminster objects to Nine Elms bridge

Labour and Conservative Councillors on Westminster Council have voiced cross-party opposition to Wandsworth Council’s proposal for a new pedestrian & cycle bridge from Nine Elms to Pimlico.

In a joint statement, they say that they do not support the proposal, and that the council will “express strongly the Council’s opposition to the proposed bridge, on the grounds of its visual and environmental impact including the impact that a new bridge would have at a landing site in Westminster, on traffic flows, pedestrian movement and on residential amenity.”

The Nine Elms bridge competition has just published 74 designs for the possible new river crossing.
