Wembley Regeneration set to get go ahead

Wembley homes The regeneration of Wembley looks set to get the go ahead despite some opposition.

The revised Masterplan is to be presented at Brent Council's Executive meeting in April. Officers have recommended approval.

Local objectors have grouped together under the banner of the Wembley Community Association, which is campaigning on issues surrounding the reconnection of North End Road to Bridge Road which would open part of the pedestrianised street to traffic. The council says this will ease traffic congestion around Olympic Way.

The Harrow Observer also points at a report – 'Local impact of the Recession' - published today, which reads: "The lack of credit and economic recession may well both stop and delay private development, which may adversely affect our regeneration ambitions in Brent." They suggest this means the economic situation may also delay further their amibtions for Wembley.

But Chris Walker, head of planning at Brent Council, told the Observer he is hopeful that any shortfalls will be addressed through bids for additional funding.
