Plans for the new Wembley Academy – Ark – have been approved despite significant local opposition.
The Ark Academy will be built on Wembley Park Sports Ground, which Brent Council says is the only realistic site, with entrances on Bridge Road and Forty Avenue.
Opposition has come from local teachers, residents' associations and a opposition parties. Objections ranged from congestion to those claiming the new school was needed elsewhere.
Councillor Robert Wharton, responsible for children and families, told the Harrow Times that there had been a lot of discussions with residents about the scheme and said the committee that approved it had done the “sensible thing”. He said: “This time last year we had a lot of complaints from residents who could not get places in the schools of their choice."
The school will have a primary school, secondary school and sixth form with a total capacity of 1600 pupils.
