Brent’s regeneration of South Kilburn reached a milestone last week as demolition began on the tallest building in the area, Wells Court.
A ‘Super Long Reach’ 70t machine, pictured being driven by Cllr George Crane, Lead Member for Regeneration and Major Projects, is being used for the six-week job.
Once the block is down, contractors Wilmott Dixon, working with Catalyst Housing, will be able to build 144 new homes over the old Wells Court.
Catalyst has been selected by Brent council to deliver 208 quality new homes – in total – for rent and private sale.
Cllr Crane said: “The demolition of this building just highlights that no job is too big when it comes to the redevelopment of South Kilburn.”
Director of development at Catalyst Housing Julia Moulder said: “We are really proud to be part of the regeneration of South Kilburn, building new homes designed by award winning architects.”
“Not only will we transform the look of the area as we take down old housing, we will also actively support the community regeneration of South Kilburn through our community development charity Catalyst Gateway.”
