Wates Construction have signed a £161.5m deal to deliver 633 new homes at Wembley Park.
The project will include 347 build-to-rent and 286 affordable homes, and marks a total £1.7bn in construction contracts awarded by Quintain for the ambitious regeneration of the area.
Wates are already one of four key contractors at Wembley Park and the deal is the largest ever awarded to the company on a single site. Construction is due for completion in 2020.
The build-to-rent units will be managed by Quintain’s rental management business, Tipi and will include state of the art residential living, with interiors by Fossey Arora and partnerships with Samsung, Kohler and John Lewis to supply appliances, brassware and furniture. The homes, which will neighbour Boxpark Wembley and a brand new seven acre park, will have access to private communal landscaped gardens, as well as a multi-use games area. The building will also include a gym, with a children’s nursery at ground level.
Matt Voyce, Executive Director of Construction Quintain, said: “We are delighted to have awarded the contract to Wates. We continue to deliver Wembley Park at pace, with 3,100 homes currently under construction and an astonishing 22 tower cranes now on site. This latest contract marks an exciting phase in the development, helping to bring forward 633 much needed new homes at Wembley Park. We look forward to working with Wates on this project.”
So far, Quintain’s massive regeneration of the 85-acre site at Wembley Park, has delivered 1,400 homes, London Designer Outlet, the Hilton London Wembley Hotel and the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Wembley Arena (now the SSE Arena, Wembley), as well as significant public realm.
Wates have almost completed 361 new homes on the nearby Landsby plots. The majority of these will be operated by Tipi and also Network Homes, and will open to the public later this year.
Mark Tant, Managing Director, Wates Construction London Residential, said: “We’re pleased to announce our appointment to this latest stage of construction work and our continued partnership with developer, Quintain, taking the total number of apartments to be delivered by Wates at Wembley Park to over 1,300.
“This contract further demonstrates our expertise in delivering large-scale residential projects that add to the changing landscape of the capital. This also gives us further opportunity to continue our local community investment plan, supporting local schools and colleges with their career development, site tours and work experience as well as undertaking projects for the local community as part of our Reshaping Tomorrow commitments.”
Wates have also delivered a Wates Building Futures course which engaged local residents in practical skills training in plumbing and carpentry; many now have full time roles in the construction industry.
