Wandsworth jobs summit

Major employers and skills providers from across Wandsworth and beyond have pledged to create more opportunities for local unemployed people.

At a council-organised ‘Jobs Summit’ the emplyers vowed to work together to ensure that unemployed people benefit from the regeneration happening across the area.

They also called for greater co-ordination between existing work employment programmes and pledged to support more locally-organised jobs fairs.

The summit was attended by  representatives of the Berkeley Group, Young’s Brewery, Mace, Battersea Power Station, Carillion, Lend Lease, as well as JobCentre Plus and the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership.

Following the summit, businesses and skills providers agreed to form a local network to provide better co-ordination of existing activity, including the promotion of local apprenticeship opportunities. The group will meet again in the middle of next year to review progress.
