Theresa Villiers has ruled out any use of the “mixed mode” runway management system at Heathrow.
Currently runways are restricted to either take-off or landing and switch each afternoon. Mixed Mode would mean all-day take off and landing on both runways. Residents have voiced concern over the increased noise this might bring. Now Transport Minister Villiers has ruled it out.
Mrs Villiers said: “Any potential benefits mixed mode might bring to the airport are outweighed by the negative impact such operations would have on local communities.”
