Plans for a Business Improvement District for Uxbridge town centre have been launched, and received the backing of the local MP, Boris Johnson.
The plans would aim to direct money to improvements around the town centre raised via a levy on the larger businesses within it. Aims include improving parking, cleanliness, place marketing, and reducing crime.
The Foreign Secretary and MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip was speaking at an event held to launch the attempt to win a ballot among businesses. He described it as “a fantastic idea”.
The process to establish a BID is now in its final consultation stage. Businesses are expected to be balloted in June or July. If successful, the BID should be established by the end of 2017.
