U+I gets temp container permission

U+I’s proposals for temporary use of the Old Laundry Site at Shepherd’s Bush Market have been approved by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

The approved scheme will use the existing containers on site for affordable co-working space to be made available to local start-ups, small businesses and arts groups. The remaining space will be for food and beverage pop-up stalls and community space.

The Old Laundry Site is next to the current Market, and sits between Shepherd’s Bush Market and Pennard Road. For many years, this piece of land has been unused.

Commenting on the decision, Deputy Chief Executive of U+I, Richard Upton, said: “we are delighted we will be bringing forward our exciting vision for the Old Laundry Site at Shepherd’s Bush Market.

“Our ambition is to bring the Old Laundry Site to life and make it a space the whole community can use and benefit from.

“Having consulted widely with the local community and Market traders, we are confident that our plans for the Old Laundry Site will benefit the whole market. It is our firm belief that the proposals will help to ensure a vibrant future for Shepherd’s Bush Market by driving greater footfall through the existing Market, and we will continue to work closely with the Council and traders.”

The project is due for completion in spring 2018.
