Third Runway decision expected

Heathrow planes The Government's decision on Heathrow's third runway is expected this week.

The Evening Standard reports the decision as 'imminent', while other reports suggest it could be tomorrow (Tuesday).

Any go-ahead will be tied to binding assurances that strict limits on emissions and aircraft noise will be met, and may be linked to a promise to build a high-speed rail link to reduce domestic flights at the same time.

This will not appease the green lobby though, it seems. A demonstration is planned this evening, and there are other promises of further action.
