Heathrow is to get a new, temporary, terminal to handle athletes for the Olympics.
The new £20m temporary building will handle the 10,000 athletes and their bags and will be planned and built by Mace.
BAA expect the main departure day – August 13 – to be their busiest ever day at the airport, with a 35% increase in baggage.
Head of Olympic and Paralympic planning Nick Cole said: “The airport is one of the most popular international airports in the world and already operates close to capacity. Every part of the airport is working together to ensure we can give the athletes a warm welcome and ensure all passengers enjoy the atmosphere.”
