Team BSC’s ‘Big Idea’ comes a close second

Barnet and Southgate College Business team have been awarded ‘runner up’ in a national competition.

Barnet and Southgate College Business BTEC students came a close second in the London Metropolitan University’s national innovation competition – the Big Idea 2018.

The team of four students invented an idea called ‘Smart Sole’ which they launched as a new type of wearable tech, the ‘Smart Sole’ is placed in your shoe and enables the user to calculate and track the number of steps they have taken and the impact of their exercise in a more accurate way. The Smart Sole also vibrates to notify users they need to increase the amount of steps taken to hit their target.

The Barnet and Southgate College team were up against 20 other colleges from across the UK in the final round of the Big Idea Challenge, after impressing judges with their original idea and business plan. The winning team was decided using a public vote and announced on 26th  April at a glittering ceremony at London’s Guildhall.
