T5, Wembley could win ‘Building of the Year’

Wembley_arch032_2 West London’s two most famous mega-projects are in the last 16 for the RIBA Stirling Prize, but a smaller scheme, Bourbon Lane, misses out.

Both the big projects have won RIBA National Awards to add to the London Award they picked up a month ago. The shortlist for the Stirling Prize, architecture’s premier award in the UK, will be taken from this list.

They face stiff opposition, Manchester’s Civil Justice Centre (Denton Corker Marshall), Westminster Academy (Alford Hall Monaghan Morris), BBC Scotland (Davd Chipperfield) and the Sackler Crossing in Kew (John Pawson) are among those still in with a chance.

Bourbon Lane, Cartwright Pickard Architects’ elegant affordable housing scheme int he shadow of Westfield London for Octavia Housing had to settle for just a London Award, missing out on the National Award (see lookwest prior coverage for detail).
