Supersewer could generate 9,000 jobs

The Thames Water “super sewer” proposed to relieve sewage problems across London could create over 9,000 jobs, according to a report.

“Why does London’s economy need the Thames Tunnel” has been published by Thames Water as part of their campaign to get the project – which would be one of the UK’s largest ever infrastructure projects – approved. While the concept of the new tunnel is not particularly in dispute, the use of parts of Wandsworth and Fulham for its construction is opposed by the councils concerned.

The report says the project would create 4,000 construction jobs at peak, with a further 5,000 created indirectly. Construction is scheduled to begin as Crossrail work is winding down.
