Residents in Sudbury are to have their say on planning issues in their local area in a referendum on a neighbourhood plan after the council’s cabinet approved the process.
The plan which has been drawn up by Sudbury Town Residents Association identifies priorities for the community, including protecting Local Green Space and preventing an overconcentration of takeaway and betting shops in Sudbury Town Centre.
The referendum will take place on 10 September 2015. If the majority of those who vote are in favour then the plan will be adopted as planning policy for Sudbury and be used to guide development in the area.
Councillor Margaret McLennan, lead member for housing and development, said: “It is important that local residents get the chance to decide what is best for their local area and a referendum on the neighbourhood plan will give people the chance to do that.”
