Stanhope has won the race to acquire the BBC TV Centre building.
The BBC has sold the iconic BBC TV Centre to Stanhope. They are reported to have beaten Chelsfield for the deal.
A BBC statement says that they have exchanged contracts for the sale of Television Centre to Stanhope Plc for a total price “in the order of £200m”.
Contracts were exchanged on Saturday 14 July 2012. The BBC say that full details of the sale will be available on completion.
The BBC had looked at various models for redeveloping the site after moving its staff out including a joint venture but appear to have decided on selling up altogether.
Plans for the site include retaining much of the existing building, converting it to a creative media complex featuring live entertainment and visitor attractions as well as production studios.
