St George have acquired the Hammersmith Enbankment site which Thames Water wants to use as part of its “super sewer” Thames Tideway Tunnel scheme.
The site has an extant planning permission for a mixed use resi/commercial/leisure development on the site, of which Thames Water wants to use about a third for linking up tunnels feeding the new Tideway.
The Fulham Chronicle reports neither St George or Thames Water were prepared to offer much comment on the acquisition or likely development of the site, with a spokesman for the developer telling them: “St George is aware that Thames Water is currently in consultation across London boroughs with a short list of preferred sites for the construction of the Thames Tunnel. No decision has been made on the choice of the selected sites and the first round of consultation is open until December 20. Therefore, St George reserves comment until the consultation is completed.”
