South Kilburn wins enterprise hub funding

Brent Council, the South Kilburn Trust and the Oxford Kilburn Youth Trust (who runt he OK Club in South Kilburn) have won £1.8 million from the Greater London Authority to go towards the creation of a long term ‘Community and Enterprise Hub’ in South Kilburn.

The partners say the new hub will secure the future of youth services and enterprise facilities in the area and create a sustainable model for new jobs, business support and training as part of the regeneration of South Kilburn.

The £1.8million of funding, which will be matched by the Trust, along with money from the Peel Precinct redevelopment and the development of new homes on adjacent land will help fund the creation of the new Enterprise Hub.

Councillor Roxanne Mashari, Lead Member for Employment and Skills at Brent Council said: “The South Kilburn Trust and the OK Club provide valuable local services which improve the lives of local people and we wanted to help ensure that these services were secured for the future. We all worked together to prepare this bid and I am thrilled that we have won the funding we need.”

Matt Parker, Chair of the OK Club said: “As we approach the OK Club’s 60th birthday in South Kilburn, we are delighted to be a part of this scheme. The three organisations already work closely together and this project will provide a firm foundation for our work over the next 60+ years. We see such enthusiasm, creativity, and amazing ideas among the young people we work with. Combining our youth work and the enterprise hub will really help to release this potential.”

Mark Allan, Chief Executive of the South Kilburn Trust said: “Many residents have been asking us about a long term legacy for the area which supports community activities and local business. This new hub will provide a permanent space to support the many entrepreneurs in the area, building on the success of the South Kilburn Studios, as well as space for the local community to hold the many events and activities that take place in the area. It’s a great opportunity for South Kilburn.”
