Slough Borough Council leader Cllr Sohail Munawar has unveiled a business rate relief fund to support Slough pubs.
The council will give pubs up to £1000 towards business rate costs to help local landlords hit by the national business rate revaluation. The cash boost is available from 2017/18 to pubs with a rateable value below £100,000.
It follows the announcement last month that the council is introducing a discretionary rate relief fund to help small and medium sized businesses in the borough facing a hike in their rates.
Cllr Munawar said: “We are acutely aware of the pressures many local pubs will be facing after the government’s revaluation of business rates.
“We are committed to doing all we can to support pubs and our night time economy and this money will go some way to providing the breathing space for many landlords who are concerned about the impact of the new rates on their bills.”
