Slough has emerged as a prime spot to live and work in a survey of salaries, vacancies and house prices.
The town has been named the best town in the country for jobs in a survey of the top 25 locations by job site Glassdoor which found Slough first for work, the cost of living and employee satisfaction. Its research showed Slough’s median salaries are £35,000, the town has more than 26,000 vacancies and the median price of a house is £390,000. It beat Manchester into second, Cambridge third, Swindon fourth and Stoke-on-Trent fifth. Reading, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Bolton and Oxford make up the rest of the top 10.
Glassdoor said: “Established as a working hub since the 1920s, this town is home to one of the most successful UK economies, with unemployment at just 1.4% and a very high average wage. It also houses one of the largest trading estates in Europe which is said to contain over 400 different companies. Slough is great for those who need to travel for work, with easy access to London, Heathrow Airport, M4, M40 and M25.”
