SEGRO has started work on its Riverside Way scheme – a new hotel, restaurant and industrial unit which will bring over 100 jobs to Uxbridge.
Preparation work has begun on the currently vacant four acre site. SEGRO say construction will start before Christmas 2014.
The new 80 bed Premier Inn hotel and Beefeater Grill restaurant, which is being built for Whitbread, will create 60 roles in catering and hospitality, business administration and customer services.
It is an aspiration that half of these roles will be taken by residents of Hillingdon who are unemployed. Together with Hillingdon Council, Uxbridge College, Job Centre Plus, SEGRO and Whitbread have created a trainee initiative that will offer training and skills development for potential employees to ensure they are ready for the newly created roles.
In addition to the service roles in the hotel and restaurant, two full time salaried construction trainee positions have been created with McLaren Construction and will be on site during the building phase of the development.
The new speculative 26,694 sq ft light industrial development has the potential, say SEGRO, to create 35-70 jobs. The units will be designed to suit urban distribution, trade counter and warehouse uses.
Riverside Way has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, and will incorporate energy strategies including renewable and low zero carbon technologies, including photovoltaics.
Alan Holland, SEGRO’s Business Unit Director for Greater London, said: “We’re proud of the contribution that Riverside Way is going to make to Hillingdon, boosting employment and training opportunities for residents and further supporting the local economy and we’re delighted that it is our second project we’re working on with Whitbread.
“The development is a good example of how we’re able to meet a variety of needs – from business hotels to industrial units – in an environmentally sustainable way.”
Jonathan Langdon, Acquisitions Manager for Premier Inn, said: ”We are delighted work has started on site on our new 80-bedroom Premier Inn in Uxbridge. The Premier Inn will be a great addition to the scheme – creating 60 new year-round jobs and helping to attract new business and leisure visitors to the local area.
“Our Premier Inn at 501 Riverside Way is our second with SEGRO and builds on our strong relationship with the developer and will contribute to our target of achieving a total of 18,000 bedrooms within the M25 by 2018. We look forward to completion in June 2015.”
Cabinet Member for Community, Commerce and Regeneration, Cllr Douglas Mills, added:
“We’ve been listening to our local business community and identified an opportunity to work with SEGRO to redevelop the Riverside Way site to provide a much needed hotel and restaurant.”
