SEGRO has made a second charitable donation of £5,000 to the Southville Community Centre in Feltham.
This donation will support the work the Community Centre undertakes in providing important local services such as training and job search opportunities, to help people back into employment.
The donation was made during a formal visit to the centre by Seema Malhotra MP, Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston. The visit was organised by SEGRO as part of a half day itinerary that also included visits to locally based businesses that are serving Heathrow.
During a short ceremony held at the Southville Community Centre, Seema Malhotra MP and Alison Yard, SEGRO’s Regional Director, Heathrow, presented the cheque to Jenni Tweedy, Outreach Worker.
The donation will assist Southville Community Centre in continuing to provide an adult education tutor to run a weekly drop-in Job Club, working with Job Centre+, local community organisations, housing providers and children’s centres. The Centre will also use the funding to provide further services aimed at the long term unemployed, such as developing skills in CV writing, job search and interview skills, and basic computer literacy. SEGRO’s first donation to the Community Centre was made in 2011.
Seema Malhotra MP comments, “In an area of high unemployment, Southville Community Centre’s job club offers vital support and services so local residents can learn new skills and improve their chances of finding work. I welcome the donation that SEGRO has provided which will make an important contribution to the Centre’s on-going services as a vital local lifeline.”
Alison Yard, SEGRO’s Regional Director, Heathrow, said, “This is yet another example of SEGRO carefully investing in young people and local communities to help increase both skills and employability. Heathrow is home to many successful and growing businesses, most of which either serve the airport or rely on the airport and its infrastructure to provide their services. It’s important that everyone has their chance to share in the on-going success, and the employment opportunities arising, from the world’s busiest international airport”.
Southville Community Centre and its services are provided by the London Borough of Hounslow and its partner, registered charity Fusion. The Centre offers programmes delivered in partnership with a number of providers, including Hounslow Integrated Youth Support Services and Hounslow Youth and Adult Education Services.
During the day, the local MP for Heston and Feltham also participated in a series of site visits and meetings with growing businesses operating in and around Heathrow Airport, including logistics services provider Toll Global Forwarding in Feltham and inflight catering provider Alpha LSG in Hounslow. The tour provided an opportunity to discuss the value of the airport to London and the UK, and the impact it has on both job creation and business investment decisions.
