Sadiq Khan has suggested that High Speed 2 could temporarily terminate at Old Oak, to allow a rethink on how it reaches and terminates at Euston.
The Mayor is unhappy at the inconvenience that would be caused by current plans in particular in the Camden area, when homes and employment space would be demolished, and wants to pause activity while alternatives are investigated. He suggested that until a successful plan can be realised, one option would be for HS2 to terminate temporarily at the Old Oak Common interchange.
He raised concerns as to whether Euston was in fact the best HS2 terminus option.
The decision lies with the Department for Transport. One of the key issues would be whether Crossrail will have to capacity that would be required to allow HS2 passengers to complete a journey to central London.
