Regional airports say UK needs a “Hub” airport

London Luton and Newcastle Airports are concerned that policy against a third runway at Heathrow may hurt their business.

New Civil Engineer reports the two airports saying that having an effective hub airport is important to their business, that they can’t wait for the Thames Estuary airport plan to deliver capacity¬† growth, and that government should develop Heathrow in the immediate future.

Newcastle International Airport planning and corporate affairs director Graeme Mason told NCE that access to the Heathrow hub is the most important for Newcastle, and that and he is keen to see more capacity there.

Both airports agreed that shifting international connections from Heathrow to regional airports would not work.
