A Brent Council regeneration project has produced a number one song.
Clean Bandit hit the top spot this week with “Rather Be“, recorded at South Kilburn Studios.
The four piece act whose music is described as a mix of classical Baroque and banging beats recorded the track at the Studios – occupying a council owned portakabin on the South Kilburn Estate. The Studios accommodates a range of local businesses for free in return for taking on local young people as apprentices. It was originally a ‘meanwhile’ project, begun in 2011, but its success has seen its life extended several times.
The arrangement has worked so well for Clean Bandit’s that a number of apprentices who worked behind the scenes ended up singing back up on the band’s records.
