QPR promotion “good for Shepherds Bush”

Some businesses in Shepherds Bush will be relieved Queens Park Rangers’ promotion to the Premier League has been confirmed.

The club, who had finished top, were threatened by a Football Association inquiry into their transfer dealings which could have resulted in a points deduction. However, the inquiry concluded no such deduction was justified, and the promotion is confirmed.

This means that LB Hammersmith & Fulham now has three top flight football clubs – the only borough in the country to have that particular hat-trick – with Chelsea and Fulham the other members of the trio.

The Hammersmith Chronicle had reported local support for QPR among businesses, who will now be pleased their promotion is confirmed.

Council Leader Stephen Greenhalgh said: “Our football clubs are key businesses locally that generate jobs and wealth for borough residents and put a lot back into our local neighbourhoods.”

The council says that Shepherds Bush businesses could benefit from a £700,000 a year cash windfall from the promotion, estimating that businesses, particularly on Uxbridge Road and around Shepherds Bush Green, will gain significantly from more passing trade.

The figure does not include the extra £40million a year– from television income, higher gate receipts and increased commercial income – that the club can expect to make.
