The Prime Minister is under pressure to take a decision on where to build another runway, according to reports.
The Times reports that civil servants have now told the PM that he can approve either a runway at Heathrow or Gatwick, and that all the environmental hurdles have been cleared by both bids.
It is understood that worries over air quality around Heathrow have receded after the introduction of cleaner road vehicle engines.
The Government has delayed its decision amid accusations of prevarication, dithering, and political scheming. It was originally due to decide last December, but put tat off until after the Mayoral election. A decision is not now expected until after the EU Referendum.
