Barnet Council say that more than 100 small businesses and charities are to be thrown out of Premier House in order to allow it to be converted in to homes.
The owner used Permitted Development Rights to serve a prior approval notice for the 14 storey property. The council says this means the companies have four to six weeks’ notice to move. The building is to be converted into 112 flats.
A Barnet Council spokesman said councillors had no choice but to approve the conversion because of the new planning rules. He said the council would not have agreed to otherwise allow the eviction of a full office block.
