Pickles approves Dollis Hill demolition

Eric Pickles has approved plans for the demolition of Dollis Hill House, after Brent Council approved the demolition of the derelict historic house earlier in the year.

The house, in Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill, has been the victim of several arson attacks, and is now in a dangerous condition. Brent Council have decided they cannot afford the cost of renovation – estimated to be over £5m. Since it is a listed building, the Secretary of State needed to approve the demolition.

The Dollis Hill House Trust hasn’t given up. They told the Wembley & Kingsbury Times they are in talks with potential partners interested in taking over the former stately home, and that the Royal Institute of British Architects wanted to run a competition for ideas to save the house.
