Palais appeal turned down

London & Regional’s appeal for their plans for the Hammersmith Palais site has been dismissed.

London & Regional appealed the refusal by LB Hammersmith & Fulham for their plans to demolish the former music and dance hall and build 429 student flats, shops and leisure units in its place. A planning inspector has now upheld the councils decision after hearing a week of evidence at a public inquiry in June.

He agreed with the Council that the 18,000sqm scheme would have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of Hammersmith Broadway conservation area and the adjoining Grade II-listed police station. The Council expects the developer to submit an alternative application for the site.
