LB Hillingdon has granted outline consent for the VSM Estates plans for RAF Uxbridge.
The consent comes after consideration at two lanning meetings in December and January, and allows the redevelopment of the site to provide 1,340 homes, a primary school, shops, and a theatre on the 110 acre site. RAF Uxbridge has been through Project MODel, a Ministry of Defence proramme to bringing disused sites back into productive use. Councillors have given the go-ahead for a hybrid scheme, with several specific points still required to be revisited.
Colin Darby, planning manager of VSM Estates, a joint venture between Vinci and St Modwen, told the Uxbridge Gazette the plans approved are somewhat scaled back from the earliest ones for the site, due to economic conditions. The original planning application was for 1,425 homes.
As a result VSM Estates have included affordable housing at the 15% level. LB Hillingdon have accepted the application, reports the Gazette, realising in this financial climate VSM have already been squeezed to their limit. An agreement has been reached to increase this proportion if the market picks up.
The plans will go to the GLA later this month, where TfL may object to the level of onsite parking.
