Osborne ups airport ante

In a speech to the CBI, Chancellor George Osborne gave the clearest indication yet that the Government will take notice of the Airports Commission report, due any time now, which will recommend how capacity should be expanded.

The Chancellor said in his speech at the CBI’s annual dinner that the Government intends to invest in the UK’s infrastructure. He promised legislation for, and the start of works on new high speed rail links, investment in roads, and improvements in broadband and telecoms.

He also said “when we get Howard Davies’ report on a new runway in the South East, we’re going to take the decision and get it built”.
