Oriental City – difficult to reopen

Oriental city Oriental City, the market in the process of being repossessed by Development Securities, would struggle to reopen.

One of the options open to DevSecs once they have repossessed the site from Peter Virdee, who failed to pay the balance of the fee agreed, is to reopen the market which used to occupy the site at 399 Edgware Road.

But traders say this will be hard, as many fixtures and fittings have been removed. Yip Fai Liu, who ran "China City" and was at the forefront of the campaign to keep it open told the Harrow Times that though 75 per cent of the traders have expressed a serious interest in moving back in, “It’s still early days but not everything is amenable for us at the moment.”

“The place was going to be demolished and a lot of people went in there and took what they wanted. The copper pipes are gone from my restaurant kitchen and they even took the door to my office".
