New food market for Wood Lane

As part of the ongoing reimagining of White City, Hammersmith & Fulham Council has opened a new weekday food market.

The new food hotspot, which features cuisines from around the world including Nigerian and Japanese, is just a short walk away from the new Television Centre and arts venue Elephant West. H&F Council launched the international food market in Wood Lane to further boost one of London’s most exciting new neighbourhoods.

They say it forms part of the council’s drive to support local entrepreneurs, start-ups and existing businesses looking to grow in H&F.

“This market is one way we’re making it easier for local entrepreneurs to start, thrive and grow in the borough,” said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for the Economy and the Arts.

“We want to breathe new life into White City with the help of our local entrepreneurs as we make H&F the best place to live, work and play in Europe.”

White City resident and founder of Jollof Mama, Tieyan Eweka-Olorunfemi is a huge fan of the new market. “This is a great initiative by H&F Council,” said Tieyan. “It’s a fantastic way for local entrepreneurs to start a business and more importantly test the market in a great location in the borough.”

She started her business after graduating from the Tree Shepherd’s Start Your Own Enterprise initiative, which is funded by H&F Council, Hammersmith United Charities and White City Big Local.

“The aim is to eventually open my very own restaurant in the borough,” added Tieyan.

Fulham resident Joseph Albitchino and his vegan street food outlet is another popular choice at the new market. The Whole Shabang Falafel founder, who previously played professional football in Greece for Apollon Athens before suffering a career-ending injury, loves the market.

“It was my dream to have my business here on Wood Lane,” said Joseph. “I first saw the spot 15 years ago when it was next to a petrol station and now I’m finally here. The area really needed this market.”

The council has also launched a new location for traders outside Shepherds Bush tube station with more on the way across the borough. The Wood Lane street food market on the corner of Wood Lane and South Africa Road runs from Monday to Friday from 8am to 3pm.
