The new Moberly Sports Centre in South Kilburn has opened for public use.
The new centre was developed by Westminster Council just inside Brent in a partnership deal between the two authorities. Taking two and a half years to complete, the centre features two swimming pools, a sports hall with seating for 500 people, a fully equipped gym, dance and exercise studios, a café and crèche.
It was opened by super-middleweight boxing champion James DeGale, light welterweight champion and local boxing star Ashley Theophane and double gold Olympic gymnast Max Whitlock.
Cllr Krupesh Hirani, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Culture and Leisure, said: “This development is a great example of two councils working together for the benefit of their respective residents, and it’s a particularly good deal for people in our borough. The new centre is on our land, but because of an agreement reached at the planning stage with Westminster Council, we have been able to ensure families in our borough get full access.”
“It’s a really exciting development for Brent and has the potential to transform the leisure and fitness experience of the whole community.”
