Musical aims to change views of South Acton

A musical is being staged to improve the image of the South Acton Estate.

The musical aims to address the negative publicity the area received from the Channel 4 documentary “Tower Block of Commons”, when MPs lived with families on the Estate. It painted a less-than-rosy picture of Suth Acton and its inhabitants. The estate is set for a major renewal programme┬áled by the Council and involving Countryside and London & Quadrant.

“Acton Broadway: The Musical” is a comunity production co-ordinated by the Acton Community Forum and project managed by Julie Saunders, founder of Theatre Studio West.

She told the Ealing Gazette┬áthat the musical aims to show “that there is still some cohesion on the estate”, and that the documentary TV programme showed a very negative and one-sided view.

Acton Broadway: the Musical is at the Waterman’s Art Centre, 40 High Street, Brentford on Sep 30 and October 1 at 7.30pm. Entrance is free. For tickets call 0208 994 8751.
