A shop unit in West Kensington that has been boarded-up for the last year has had its front window dressed in an attempt to attract a new business to lease the property.
The shop, at 175a North End Road has been decorated to look like a chic vintage boutique as part of a £10,000 scheme funded by the Government to help reinvigorate empty shop units in the area.
The cash was awarded to the ‘Love West Kensington’ group of local businesses and residents who worked with the council to become a Town Team Partner.
Love West Kensington aims to put the heart back into the centre of its high street by helping to develop and nurture new and existing businesses.
The group is particularly concerned about the number of empty shops in the area and has been trying to track down landlords, such as the owner of 175a North End Road, to see if they would be willing to improve their premises’ façade until a new tenant is found.
The group is also exploring temporary initiatives, such as Pop Up Shops and short-term lets and is keen to involve interested local landlords as well as businesses and residents.
