A government minister confirms LEPs can go ahead in London.
There had been debate over whether groups of local authorities and private sector businesses would be allowed to apply to form Local Enterprise partnerships (LEPs) in London as they have been encouraged to do outside. Now Bob Neill, local government minister, has said that “there will be London LEPs”, when speaking at the Conservative conference in Birmingham.
Neill said: “There will be London LEPs. However, slightly different timeframes and requirements will apply to them and we are waiting for full guidance from the mayor’s office on how they will operate.”
Several groups have put forward LEPs inside London, including a West London one championed by West London Business, which will form the topic for a session at Place West London on October 14.
