London First calls for aviation pledge

Let Britain Fly – the lobby group backed by business group London First – has responded to the launch of the Airports Commission’s public consultation on new runways for London and the South East by calling for manifesto commitments.

They called on the UK’s main political parties to offer manifesto commitments that pledge to make a quick decision on airports expansion once the Commission makes its final recommendation after the election next summer.

It follows what London First describe as a series of public statements in favour of airports expansion made by both Ministers and Shadow Ministers at recent political party conferences and the publication of a series of reports for consultation by the Commission. However, they say, the business community is concerned that without a clear pledge in election manifestos to “make a quick decision guided by the Airports Commission” that there could be a risk of further potential political procrastination on urgently needed airports expansion.
