A large digital, creative and media careers exhibition is set to take place at the Brent Civic Centre, connecting residents with hiring local employers and large national digital, creative and media organisations.
The careers event, which is supported by Brent Council, follows a borough-wide training programme where over eighty Brent residents, from sixth forms, college and Jobcentres networks will be working with leading employers including Hyperoptic, Transport for London and HS2 to develop their own tech businesses – developing commercial and community-focused ideas to ‘Reimagine the High Street’.
Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council said: “The careers fair is a fantastic way for everyone, young and old, to get a really wide-ranging view of the opportunities available in the digital and technology sectors. There are very exciting careers in these industries and I hope people will take the chance and meet with all the quality companies attending the fair and discover the career path they might like to take.”
Kate Myers, HS2 Ltd’s Head of Skills, Employment and Education said: “At HS2 Ltd, we aim to help the next generation develop the technical skills to not only design and build HS2, but to leave a lasting skills legacy for the country.
“We’ll need 30,000 people at the peak of construction to deliver Britain’s new railway, and will have 2,000 apprentices across the entire programme. We’re keen to engage with communities in Brent to promote the opportunities available, including our latest apprenticeship vacancies.”
Martin Kerem, Director, Genium said: “As a local Brent business, Genium is very proud to support the Brent LA Tech Camp training programme with up-skilling our residents and giving them an opportunity in the creative and technology sector to harness and enhance their talent, inspiration and ideas.”
Thomas Greer, Director, London Hackspace said: “I look forward to being at the Tech Camp event in Brent and offering local residents access to London Hackspace, a community workshop where members come to share tools and knowledge. This is a great time to be in the technology sector and we want to help people develop their skills and knowledge in this area.”
The winning business will be awarded at the fair and gain six months of mentorship and the chance to pitch their idea to business investors. The event is open to everyone keen to learn more about the tech sector, chat to hiring employers and meet the winning team.
