Kodak demolition begins

Demolition of the former Kodak Factory in Harrow has begun ahead of its redevelopment by Barratt and Hyde as the 1150 home Harrow View East scheme.

The factory finally closed in 2016, as demand for photographic film and chemicals declined. The 30 acre site is understood to be scheduled to be cleared by the end of the first quarter in 2019.

The BDP designed masterplan also includes a school, shops, a health centre and commercial space and the Harrow View West scheme – around 500 homes already under construction by Persimon Homes. Barratt Homes and Hyde Housing achieved outline consent for their part of the scheme in 2017, and detailed consent for the 500 home first phase earlier in 2018.

As part of the plans, a new energy centre will retain the Kodak chimney.rea.
