Knowles House could close

Brent Council has opened consultation on the future of Knowles House, a residential care home in Willesden.

The council is proposing to close Knowles House, the property in Longstone Avenue currently caters for older adults living with dementia, but necessary improvements to the building have not been carried out over the years due to successive funding issues.
The building is dilapidated and in its current state does not meet new standards set by the Care Quality Commission. Funding to modernise the site is unlikely to be available in the immediate future, plus council policy does not support directly owned and managed care homes of this type.

The site has two council-owned care facilities within it, Knowles House Residential Home and the Westbrook Community Day Centre. These may become available for redevelopment if the home does close.
The consultation period runs until 11 July 2011.
