King St Public Enquiry approaches

King street The Public Inquiry which will determine between St James and Grainger/Helical Bar as developers for King St is scheduled for Dec 9.

The Council's preferred partner is Grainger/Helical Bar (their development is pictured), but St James still owns 20% of the 6 acre site. St James is lined up with Tesco as the retail anchor for a cinema and retail scheme, while Grainger/Helical have Waitrose in a £100m scheme to deliver a new Council building as well as retail, spec office and homes.

Estates Gazette reports that the Council will argue that a Tesco led development is not in the public interest as they say it doesn't allow for a comprehensive regneration – St James' plans are only for thea portion of the site that they own.
