Imperial College has bought the Woodlands site, near White City, from the BBC.
The College has earmarked the 7.7 acre site, next to the BBCs White City campus, for new teaching, research and administrative facilities . It was formerly occupied by BBC Worldwide, now based in the White City Media Village. The site is part of the area which the BBC, Helocal Bar and others want to regenerate as a new creative industries hub – “Creative London”.
Imperial College already has a Hammersmith campus close to the site. Property Week reports that the College beat off competition to buy the site from other parties including Darryl Flays Essential Land.
Chris Kane, head of BBC Workplace, said: “For an education and research institution of the quality of Imperial College London to expand within W12 is a great boost for our Creative London vision.”
