The new transport secretary, Chris Grayling, has said he has no plans to cancel HS2.
The HS2 project links London and Birmingham with a faster line, but the most important things that it delivers for the UK are additional capacity on the West Coast mainline, and a better connection to Heathrow for Birmingham and the North.
For West London, it delivers an interchange at Old Oak with Crossrail, and an opportunity to regenerate a large part of the area, delivering new homes and jobs.
Chris Grayling told BBC Radio 4’s The World This Weekend: “I have no plans to back away from the HS2 project.”
