Hounslow Council’s Cabinet has reversed its decision to grant a 125 year lease to Floreat free school on Brent Lea recreation ground.
The council’s overview and scrutiny committee called in Cabinet’s decision to agree heads of terms for a permanent lease on the site. Following the call in, Cabinet agreed to reconvene and the members voted to reverse their decision.
The heads of terms agreed for a two year lease for temporary school buildings on the site is not affected by this decision. The council is working closely with the Education Funding Agency to help them find an alternative permanent site for Floreat Free School.
Hounslow Council’s Leader, Councillor Steve Curran, said: “After listening to the views of the public and the overview and scrutiny committee, for which we were grateful, we reversed the decision to agree head of terms for a 125 year lease for a permanent building.
“Providing enough school places for our children is a top priority for us and we will do everything we can to ensure we achieve this.”
