Hounslow Council has published its submission to the Airports Commission’s public consultation on additional runway capacity at Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
The council has a long held position that Heathrow should be “better not bigger”. As such, it disagrees with both of the current proposals to expand Heathrow because of noise and pollution. The council says it wants a better package of measures to mitigate this, particularly for local schools, irrespective of whether the airport expands or not.
The council has restated this position in its submission.
The council does, however, recognise the significant benefits Heathrow brings to the borough and is keen to maximise these to the full.
“We have a very positive relationship with the airport and want it to be successful. It makes a major contribution to Hounslow’s economy and employment,” said the deputy leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Amrit Mann.
