Hounslow Council has been shortlisted in this year’s National Planning Awards 2019.
The 2019 Planning Awards recognise the year’s best excellence in both planning and placemaking. As well as recognising outstanding professional planning work, they also reward excellence in planning-related activities such as placemaking, urban design, economic development, housing, regeneration, legal advice and environmental consulting.
Hounslow Council has reached the final of the Planning Awards for its Partnership Working, which sets out the creative development that has provided 2,600 school places through innovative partnership working between the council, local headteachers, Nishkam School Trust, Sky UK and Grasshoppers Rugby Club. Working closely with the Department for Education it is delivering a multi-million pound project to create 2,600 school places alongside relocating and creating a state-of-the-art rugby and netball ground. These developments directly improve social wellbeing by providing for the needs of the local community.
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “This is great news and we’re delighted that the council has been recognised and shortlisted as a finalist in these prestigious awards.
“Hounslow has faced an unprecedented rise in demand for school places with expansions of secondary school places now a priority. A particular gap has been in mixed gender provision across a large central section of Hounslow, something that the community has long campaigned for.
“This has been a long awaited project which has only been achieved by working in partnership and I would like to extend my thanks to all those involved in working on this major project for their hard efforts.”
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held at the Royal Institute of British Architects on 4 June 2019.
