Following Cabinet approval in July to go out to tender for a Head Lessee to operate Feltham Assembly Hall, the council is now asking for Expressions of Interest.
The intention is to find a suitable local group or individual who can operate the site and ensure that it has a sustainable future.
The site is currently managed by the council’s leisure partner, Fusion, which operates the Borough’s Leisure Centres and Public Halls. The venue is suitable for a wide range of uses, including, but not limited to sporting events, birthday parties, dances, fairs, meetings, concerts, weddings and theatrical rehearsals and productions.
Cllr Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Transport and Corporate Property, said: “Our recent review of community buildings – which looked at whether they are fit for purpose and how to increase occupation so they provide the maximum benefit for the wider community – showed that a number of sites, including Feltham Assembly Hall, have been underutilised.
“We decided that the most appropriate option was to look for local management of the site through a community occupier. Therefore, we are now calling for Expressions of Interest from a suitable group to act as the lead operator/user /tenant to ensure that Feltham Assembly Hall is available to the local community, and operated by local groups for the benefit of local people.”
The principal aim is to encourage the community to bring the building back into wider use based on a manageable rental level, which will enable the building to thrive in the longer term.
The deadline for initial Expressions of Interest is 12noon on 30 November.
