Ealing Council has suggested closing RAF Northolt and redevloping the site as homes, it is reported.
GetwestLondon reports Ealing Council has put forward the idea in response to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s “City for All Londoners” consultation. The airbase could be redeveloped as 20,000 homes.
Hillingdon Council, who might have been expected to applaud the idea of closing an airport in their borough, is reported as opposing the proposal.
The base is authorised by the government to allow 12,000 commercial flights a year and there are around another 5,000 military flights each year.
